Clinical Exercise

Mia believes that movement is medicine. Movement can be used as a treatment intervention for those who are looking for sustainable, long term change. Mia has completed training in clinical pilates as well as rehabilitation programming which is strength and conditioning based. This combination allows exercises to be tailored to every patient's needs no matter their current capabilities.

A 1:1 consult with Mia will involve a functional movement assessment, breathing, posture and orthopaedic testing. The information gathered from this, combined with your goals, will allow Mia to formulate a specific rehabilitation program for you.

This program is something that you can take with you to complete at home or bring with you to the gym.

If you have any further questions about Clinical exercise, please email Mia.

Pelvic floor dysfunction can be associated with:

  • Muscular pain: Lower back pain, coccyx pain, hip pain, abdominal pain

  • Bowel and bladder dysfunction: Constipation, stress urinary incontinence, urge incontinence

  • Sexual dysfunction

  • Menstrual pain

  • Persistent Pelvic pain

  • Endometriosis and adenomyosis

  • Pelvic organ prolapse

  • Abdominal and Inguinal hernia

The beauty of Mia’s practice is that she treats the whole person and the whole person holistically. When it comes to pelvic health, she understands that your pain may be influenced by a range of different systems and adjacent areas and will always consider the body as a whole.

Mia will discuss different treatment options available to your for your pelvic pain. This could include: General osteopathic treatment & assessment, visceral manipulation, external pelvic floor assessment with the transabdominal ultrasound, internal pelvic floor assessment and internal myofascial pelvic floor release.

If you are interested in pelvic floor muscle treatment in Melbourne, Mia performs internal myofascial pelvic floor release exclusively at Eastern Osteopathy/ The pelvic place Melbourne.

Pelvic pain

Pre & Postpartum

Pregnancy is a special time for any expecting parent. Your body will undergo many changes to allow for the growth of your baby.

Each pregnancy is different! Minimal pain may be experienced, or you may have some pain in response to the changes that your body has undergone.

Some complaints that are common throughout the pregnancy include:

  • Lower back pain

  • Pelvic girdle pain

  • Rib and mid back pain

  • Shoulder, head and neck pain

  • Headaches

  • Sciatica

  • Carpal tunnel syndrome

Osteopathic treatment is safe during pregnancy and can help with pain relief and education. Education can also be provided regarding various other factors including: sleep position, safe exercise, breathing, ergonomics, birth preparation and more!

Mia has completed additional training in birth preparation. With this knowledge, she is able to help you prepare you body and pelvic floor for birth. This may be done through osteopathic treatment, discussion of active birth positions and a pelvic floor examination to assist your birth.

Once you have had your baby, your body will be recovering from the changes that it has undergone. Mia believes in working with those who are postpartum to help them get back to the activities that are most important to them. Everyone is different! For you, this may be to play with your child pain free, it may be to return to running, it could be to feel strong and confident in your body. If returning to exercise is not a goal for you, there is definitely still benefit in engaging in some pilates inspired movements - to build your strength which may be required to care for your growing baby! Mia will discuss this with you and work with you to best suit your needs. In the early postpartum period, pilates inspired exercises and breath work are a great place to start to reconnect with your body and follow a graded return to activity. For those who are interested in returning to high impact activity, Mia is also able to help formulate a graded return to strength work and running with an individualised program.
