Welcome
My name is Mia and I am thrilled that you have found my page! I am an osteopath working in Melbourne. I thoroughly enjoy being an osteopath. There is nothing I love more than helping people return to what is important to them in their life!
I have a passion for understanding what is important to my patient and working with them collaboratively to ensure they are able to return to their desired activities if pain prevents them from doing so.
I am continuously learning about the body and always trying to further develop my knowledge and understanding, so that I can support my patient in the best way.
I treat a variety of clients ranging in age and areas of pain. You can find out more about what I treat here. I have a vested interested in working with clients who also love utilising and learning about a holistic approach to health care.
Other areas I particularly enjoy treating include: Neck pain & headaches, TMJ disorders, Sporting injuries, Rehabilitation of injury and chronic pain, Pre & Postpartum care, Postpartum Return to Running and Diastasis Recti management, Bowel & Bladder concerns for adults and children.
When I am not at work, you can find me enjoying good food with my friends and family. I love to keep active through any activity but particularly love doing pilates, breath work and gym based exercise. I am always spending time with my Jack Russell and Hungarian Vizsla and always up for a chat about good restaurants, your pets and the Carlton Blues!
What is an osteopath?
Osteopaths are trained allied health practitioners who have a sound understanding of the body. Osteopaths in Australia undertake five years of study at university. This includes in-depth study of physiology, anatomy, pathology, health care, patient centred care and diagnostic skills. Osteopaths learn a range of skills and techniques which are tailored to best suit the individual client.
Osteopathy is based on four founding principles established by the founder, Andrew Taylor Still.
· The body is a unit.
· The body is able to self-regulate, self heal.
· Structure and function are interrelated.
· Rational treatment is based upon understanding these principles.
Based on these principles, a thoughtful treatment is formulated as follows:
We know that the body is able to self-heal, Mia is there to facilitate this process for you using treatment, goal setting or clinical exercise. The body is a unit; we know that the body works together. Treatment and manual therapy may be targeted to the site of pain but also focused on other tissues and organs that can contribute to your pain. Treatment could also pertain to addressing lifestyle factors, habits and movement. Structure and function are interrelated; Mia may use manual therapy or clinical exercise to optimise your individual biomechanics.
